The Instiute of Muslim Mental Health proudly hosts a two webinar series in which scholars share their expertise to community members and mental health professionals, respectively. The Meet the Expert series is open to the public and features a clinician scholar who will provide a brief overview on his or her expertise then answer questions of registered participants. The Meet the Expert-Pro is intended for mental health professionals to be updated on the latest developments in the respective topics.

Our next Meet the Expert webinar Thursday, October 25th is "Breaking the Silence: An INtersectinal Understanding of Domestic Violence" featuring Dr. Olubunmi Oyewuwo-Gassikia. One webinar (7pm EST) will be for clinicians to hear about the culturally appropriate approaches to therapy with Muslim clients. The second webinar 7:45pm EST) will be open to the public to discuss general issues in talk therapy.

This webinar by Dr. Olubunmi Oyewuwo-Gassikia will give an overview of domestic violence in the American Muslim community specifically and discuss how mental health professionals and researchers are moving from an interpersonal view of violence to one that considers intersectionality. She will also discuss her own research and what she has learned about how sociocultural and structural influences shape women's experiences and responses to violence. Implications for the community and practice will be covered.

Find a Therapist

This directory is a very useful tool to help people find a counselor, therapist, psychologist, and/or psychiatrist throughout North America. However, this only serves as a directory. As an organization we do not endorse or guarantee that the mental health professionals listed will deliver appropriate services. Furthermore, if you or a loved one has a medical or psychological emergency, and may be a danger to yourself/themselves or others, then please call 911 and seek help immediately. This website does NOT serve as an emergency hotline and is not monitored daily. We pray this is a benefit to all who use it.
